NEXT GEN RTA
(06-13-2021) Today is the first day of the NEXT GENERATION Regional Transit Authority (RTA) program. To welcome this program, RTA decided to give a whole week (June 13-19) of free rides to all its customers starting today. As a citizen of Cleveland and a daily RTA rider, I found this program to be a great change to the RTA’s services this year. The NEXT GENERATION program is a great change for our city since it will make more one-seat rides for the citizens of Cleveland.
This redesigned public transportation system consolidates some current routes while eliminating others to keep the one-seat riding advantage for Clevelanders.
I believe that that this program (NEXT GEN) is a good way to bring in more people to use public transportation and decrease air pollution and damage to our planet that cars and other gas vehicles cause daily.
Though this is a great program, RTA still has a lot to fix to keep our riders safe. The reformation or termination of the transit police will provide citizens of colour with a better sense of security while riding RTA services. The transit police are well known for targeting people of colour, homeless citizens and anyone they see inferior to them, which has made them a threat to our communities.
I believe that RTA should listen to the people of Cleveland and their community empowerment. If elected, I will propose to make changes to our current RTA administration and their current services to bring safety and better service to all Cleveland riders.
